spring treasures

I love spring.  Okay, I know it's technically still winter, but in my mind spring has already sprung (even despite the white stuff on the ground) and what better way to celebrate spring than some good old spring cleaning?  This year, one of the projects on my spring cleaning checklist was the bookshelf in our sunroom/office.  I believe that each family has that one place in their house that is the "crap place"; the place where things get hastily shoved into when guests are coming over.  The place where you throw your school books and binders once the semester is over because you never want to look at them again.  We've got one, and I bet you do too.  Ours is the bookcase in our sunroom.  Ohhh, let me tell you, this bookcase was sooooo full of crap.  I think I made three trips down to the recycling bin.  It was full of stuff, however, now it looks so much better - thank goodness!

I knew that I would feel a lot better once I cleaned and organized this space, but I didn't expect that I would find a treasure.

love is a lot of work

It's estimated that a full-time worker in Canada works an average of 2,080 hours per year.  Basically, us full-time workers spend more time at work that we do at home; kind of depressing when you think about it.  It's no wonder that 47% of affairs occur in the workplace; you spend more time with your co-workers than you do with your spouse, but that's a whole different topic.  What I'm talking about is loving your job, not creating love with your co-workers.

What got me thinking about this?  Well, the other day as I was walking back into the office from my lunch break, the receptionist stopped me and handed me a bunch of flowers.  "A client just dropped these off for you", she said.  I was floored.  I've received flowers at work before, but they were either from Hubby or my bosses - never from a client.  When I got back to my desk I sent the client an email thanking him for the flowers, and he responded with a note saying that he was very impressed with the work that I was doing, and that it's always such a pleasure to work together.  I'm pretty sure I started blushing.

baby brain

I've got baby brain. Like bad. I know it's still a couple of years away until Hubby and I start trying for a little one, but I can't stop thinking about what life is going to be like with a babe.

While surfing the interweb the other day, I came across an article entitled "Are You Ready for a Baby or Not?", needless to say it immediately caught my eye. The article listed five signs you're ready for a baby, and five signs you're not. Here they are, for your reading pleasure:

book review - Unbearable Lightness by Portia De Rossi

After seeing Portia promote her book Unbearable Lightness on both Oprah and Ellen, I knew I needed to read this book.  I was not disappointed.

Portia wrote with such honesty that you feel like you are her close friend and she's telling you her story while you're sitting on her couch and drinking a cup of tea.

Portia's story really also made me reflect on my relationship with food and nutrition.

roasted garlic hummus

What a great weekend! The weather was BEAUTIFUL here in Vancouver, I accomplished a lot off of my ever-growing "chore list", the Canucks won, and I made hummus.

Oh yeah, I also went to IKEA with Hubby, and he didn't once ask "are you done yet?".  Seriously, could the weekend have been any better?  No, I don't think so.  Well, maybe if we won the Lotto Max, but, hey, you can't win 'em all.

Hummus is one of my favourite things, especially when made with a whole head of roasted garlic.  That's right, a whole head!

dine out date night - reviews!

So during my little blogging break, Hubby and I participated in one of our most favourite events:  Dine Out Vancouver.  As previously mentioned, the plan was to try two restaurants which we've never been to before:  Salt Tasting Room and The Poor Italian.

All I have to say is "wow"!  These two places were EXCELLENT Dine Out choices.

wonderful wedding moment number nine

The Cake.

We didn't have a regular run-of-the-mill wedding cake.  Nope.  We had our cake hand-made by my mother-in-law and sister-in-law.   It was so well done that I couldn't believe these two made it, it looked like it came from a professional bakery.  Our cake was made with love, what more could we have asked for?

Cutting the cake was a special moment as well.  It's one of those cliched wedding "events" (along with the bouquet toss, etc.); it was so fun to do this with Hubby, to actually be the one doing all the things that we've seen others do over, and over (and over) again!

PS:  Did you see the other wonderful wedding moments?  If not, check them out here!
